After extensive renovations, the secondhand store My Lucky Day has opened at its new location at 401 N. 4th Street, the former site of 21st Century Books.
With the old insulation and wood removed and all dividing walls taken out, the bright and airy store has nearly twice the usable space, including two and a half rooms for ladies’ fashions.
Molly and Tom Ridgley became proprietors of the non-profit establishment in 1998. They regularly donate to the community, including costumes to theater groups, books and gym equipment to schools, and clothes to disaster-relief agencies. All donations made to My Lucky Day are tax deductable and the money stays right here in the community.
“We get donations from all over the world because of the international community,” says Molly. “We have very generous donors!”

Molly says the name refers to their exceptionally low prices, which have pretty much stayed the same for the past 17 years. But there’s another reason it’s called My Lucky Day: “People have said over and over that they’ve had the urge to pull over and stop,” she says, “and when they do, they find this strange thing they’ve been looking for for a long time!”
In addition to bargain-priced clothes—jeans are $2.50, dresses are $3.00, and shoes and boots start at $2.50—My Lucky Day also carries household items, books, furniture, small appliances, and decorative objects.
Items in good condition are always needed, and they especially welcome furniture and table lamps. Remarkable goods show up all the time—including a Harmony Stella guitar, Gucci clothing, and an all-wool hooked rug. Molly posts new finds on Facebook regularly. “People have really come through for us and donated nice things,” she says.
So if you’re driving down 4th Street and you suddenly feel an irresistable urge to visit My Lucky Day—give in to it! You might just find exactly what you’re looking for.
