Put your new construction skills to work and make a difference in your community.
Are you a woman who’s always wanted to learn how to use a nail gun? Do you harbor a secret desire to learn your way around a toolbox? Want to feel at home on a construction site? Here’s your chance to learn all sorts of basic building skills! Lowe’s is partnering with IOwa Valley Habitat for Humanity to offer a free workshop for women on Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m., at the Coralville store. During the clinic, participants will learn how to frame walls and roofs. Then put your new skills to work by volunteering with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity during the annual National Women Build Week, May 4-12.
Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week, which will be held in the week leading up to Mother’s Day, will empower women to get actively involved with Habitat’s mission to help families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. Women of all construction skill levels are encouraged to volunteer.
Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity’s 2013 Women Build Week has been named for Christine Grant, the University of Iowa’s Women’s Athletic Director from 1973 to 2000. Grant spent her legendary career empowering girls and women and crusading for gender equity in intercollegiate athletics. The Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity will be kicking off their fifth local Women Build Week with the Christine Grant 5K run/walk on May 4.
