Mornings, you hear the eastern wood-pewee’s plaintive pee, you? pee-oh-wee! in the woods. Pewees are flycatchers, and they do indeed catch flies, as well as other flying insects. They perch in a straight-up posture where they have a commanding view of lots of space. From there they sashay off and catch their prey midair. Then they return and perch again in the same spot.
