Join a panel of solar experts to honor the power of the sun and its contribution to a sustainable future on Friday, March 14, at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, a 100-percent solar-powered facility in Hiawatha. The free event will include talks with experts about solar energy’s role in combating climate change, sun-inspired refreshments, and the chance to connect with fellow sun enthusiasts.
From 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m., enjoy expert presentations from Genie Maybanks (Iowa Solar Energy Trade Association), Mike Carberry (Bright Future Iowa), Carrie Lane and Greg Barnett (I-Renew), and Rob Hogg (Iowa Faith & Climate Network). Participants will learn about the benefits of solar energy, receive consumer resources on selecting vendors and contractors to install solar, and learn about the myths of solar. An interactive tour of the Prairiewoods solar array will be provided by Eagle Point Solar.
“Solar energy is a key component of a sustainable future, and Solar Appreciation Day is an opportunity to celebrate its impact and potential,” said Leslie Wright, director of Prairiewoods. “We invite everyone to join us in learning more about how solar power can benefit our environment, economy and daily lives.”
The event is free and open to the public, with an opportunity to connect with state experts in the solar industry. Attendees will be able to learn directly from organizations and individuals that have experienced the benefits of solar.
