Enjoy a Labor Day Weekend tradition at Uptown Bill’s Coffee House in Iowa City, as Joe Brisben leads a community sing of labor and working songs on Saturday, September 1, 7–9 p.m. You’ll get to sing classic songs from the labor movement, many of which are anthems of the civil rights and peace movements, too. Some favorite songs include “We Shall Not be Moved” and “Solidarity Forever,” among others. Suggested cover for the event is $5–$10.
(Editor’s note: Many of you may remember Joe Brisben as the author of the Iowa Source Money column for many years.)
Uptown Bill’s is named for Bill Sackter and has been a part of the Iowa City community since 2001. It grew out of the original Wild Bill’s Coffee Shop located in North Hall. Uptown Bill’s is located at 730 S. Dubuque St., a few blocks south of downtown Iowa City. Parking is available in front of the coffee house and in the UI parking lot across the street. Coffee, tea, and specialty sodas are available during Saturday evening shows, along with desserts and other treats.
Coming up Saturday, September 8: Community Folk Sing at 3 p.m. and Ben Farrer at 7 p.m.
