Euforquestra hosts the annual Camp Euforia, a festival for music lovers, with 19 bands on two stages.
Iowa City’s seven-piece Afrobeat, funk, and reggae ensemble Euforquestra is preparing for the biggest and best Camp Euforia yet. This year’s festival, July 11-12, 2008, in Lone Tree, Iowa, will delight audiences with two days of local, regional, and national bands as well as camping, food, and fun activities.
Camp Euphoria came about five years ago when members of Euforquestra put their heads together to create a festival that celebrates the community and its diverse music scene. Today, it’s a full-blown, volunteer-run, two-day music scene, with 19 bands on two stages, fire dancers, camping, and food.
“It’s really exciting to have seen its progression,” says Eric Quiner, organizer of the fest and member of Euforquestra. “All the focus is on the music and the community. We really want to showcase the local music scene as well as to bring different acts from around the country. People have come to expect that we are going to give them a good time no matter what.”
Two weeks after the festival, the Iowa City group will relocate to Fort Collins, CO, but say they will keep the festival going.
“Even though we are moving, the festival will go on every year,” says Quiner. “It has become a great tradition that we just can’t give up on.”
The 2008 music line-up includes Euforquestra, Public Property, Cornmeal, Bob Dorr and the Blue Band, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Mr. Baber’s Neighbors, and many more. Music will take place on two stages, the Iowa City Yacht Club Stage and the MC Ginsberg Main Stage. Iowa Public Radio will be the official radio station of Camp Euforia.
